Technological literacy is a pre-condition for sucessful design! But what are the standards, when the medium to design is in constant flux? A curriculuum of media design not only has to provide a single design methodology, but an holistic one, that enables the designer to constantly reconfigure techno- logical proficiency and defines this process of live-long learning.

SHOWOFF DEVICES at THE HFG-KARLSRUHE:

Gadgets and cars, there's not much of a difference! No consumer really cares about functionality; it's its visibility, that matters! From flip phone to touch screens; mobile communication interfaces have to secretly fulfill a human desire for show. We speak it out though: Let's design gadgets for the only purpose of generating as much public attention as possible; true show off devices:

You definitely wanna check out Annika Berlings and Ole Ciliox 'IBrella' and Felix Vorreiters 'TextBomber'.

TOUCHING at THE HFG-KARLSRUHE:

WE WERE LOOKING AT SOME ODD MISPROPORTION CONCERNING EMOTIONAL CAPABILITIES OF INTERACTIVE ART AND DESIGN. We asked ourselves: Why is all interactive so poorly evoking emotions? Why is all interactive not as close as moving as movies or inspiring as music? It's still multimedia, right? Driven by the objective to mark a change, we were not afraid of kitsch, cliches and agitprop. We called it 'TOUCHING !' since haptics were to play an important role.

See for instance Martin Mayers 'RunawayChair', Andreas Schusters 'WiredFire' or Yun-Jun Lees 'Synaesthesia' or check out the TOUCHING blog. All works had been exhibited at the RE/ACT 2007.
